An Alternative to Chaos
Do you feel like something is wrong with your brain? Your brain’s chemistry? A lack of dopamine or serotonin—one of those chemicals you’ve heard about?
Is something wrong with the gap between your neurons, your synapses?
Your brain feels foggy. You’re not as sharp in your thinking as you used to be. You can’t take incoming information and process it like you once could. The world is too fast, too chaotic, too confusing—and your brain cannot cope.
The world, or at least the way your brain is processing it, is chaotic.
Chaos: The universe’s way of reminding you that control was always just a comforting illusion. A symphony where every musician plays a different song at maximum volume while the conductor waves a white flag.
If you’ve ever heard the word homeopathy, you know many people think it’s hocus pocus—unscientific, untested, ineffective. But it’s built on an ancient idea: like treats like. If the problem is chaos, then the solution is chaos. If the problem is poison from a snakebite, the solution is another snake.
The chaos of your life is on full display on Good Friday. The alternative is discovering, deep within the mind of Christ, the calm in the midst of every storm.
There’s definitely something wrong with your brain and mine—but we have been given the mind of Christ. With the love and wisdom of Jesus, we don’t need anything else.
Even in the midst of the storm, Jesus is comfortably, soundly asleep and in control of everything.
The alternative to chaos is the calm, chaotic image of Jesus on Calvary.
I’m Frank Balgeman, the physics pastor from the Santa Cruz Mountains, and you are going to get through this. God bless.
