The Simple Bible: Before Creation
Before God creates anything—and I mean anything—there is no space. No up or down, no left or right. There is no yesterday or tomorrow. Even the idea of “now” doesn’t exist yet.
God is his own community. God is one thing, and God is everything.
Here’s your first takeaway: There is no difference between one thing and everything.
The one thing is God. The everything is the universe. The word “universe” literally means “to turn into one”—uni (one) + verse (to turn).
When God creates, He is turning Himself—the one thing—into everything.
A Simple Example:
Think of an acorn. Inside that tiny seed is an entire oak tree—roots, trunk, branches, leaves, and the potential for thousands more acorns. The acorn is the tree, just compressed into one thing.
Before creation, God was like that acorn: complete, whole, containing all possibilities within Himself. Creation is God unfolding—the acorn becoming the forest.
Here endeth the lesson.
